Welcome to my writing and editing portfolio!
I hold a 1st class Honours Bachelor Degree in Biological Sciences and a PhD in Biotechnology, both from Maynooth University, Ireland. For almost 10 years, I worked as a researcher in both academic and industrial roles in Ireland and Denmark, and while writing my PhD in 2010, I fell in love with writing.
Throughout my research career, I worked with yeast, filamentous fungi, bacteria, plants, moth larvae and mammalian cells. I have tried my hand at everything from Sanger sequencing to genetically modifying disease-causing fungi.
I really love science and I am passionate about communicating science to others. This passion for knowledge-sharing prompted me to join Bitesize Bio as a freelance writer (2014), a role which has later progressed to Editorial Manager, where I became heavily involved in all content production for a site with more than 1.5 million visitors per year. I also have a number of Ad Hoc activities in writing and editing, and am a regular contributor for Research Features Magazine, bringing ground-breaking scientific advances to the public forum.
I enjoy these roles a lot and I believe that communicating science is just as important as doing science! I am always open to hearing about new opportunities, in particular within scientific communications. Please feel free to get in touch if you have a suggestion for collaboration!
